RAD INTERMEDIATE is for ages 8 to 12. This program is for riders who have been mountain biking consistently for two or more years, and can climb and descend under control on moderately steep and flat singletracks with loose rocks or roots.
Riders must have bikes with a minimum of 24” wheels - minimum front suspension.
Intermediate biking skills for youth programming involve abilities and techniques that go beyond basic cycling proficiency, enabling young riders to navigate more challenging terrains and situations safely and effectively. These skills are typically targeted at youth who have already mastered fundamental biking skills and are ready to take their riding to the next level.
Here are some key components of intermediate biking skills:
- Bike Handling - Improved control over the bike, including the ability to ride with one hand, navigate tight turns, and maintain balance on uneven surfaces.
- Braking Techniques: - Understanding how to use both front and rear brakes effectively to control speed and stop safely, especially on descents.
- Shifting Gears: - Proficiency in using gears to manage different terrains, including understanding when to shift for optimal performance on hills and flat surfaces.
- Riding on Varied Terrain: - Ability to ride on different surfaces such as gravel, dirt, and grass, as well as navigating obstacles like roots, rocks, and small jumps.
- Climbing and Descending: - Techniques for climbing hills efficiently and descending safely, including body positioning and weight distribution.

Cornering: - Skills for taking corners smoothly and safely, including leaning into turns and maintaining speed.
- Basic Maintenance: - Knowledge of basic bike maintenance, such as checking tire pressure, adjusting brakes, and cleaning the bike.
- Group Riding Skills: - Learning how to ride in a group, including maintaining a safe distance, communicating with other riders, and following group dynamics.
- Confidence Building: - Developing the confidence to tackle new challenges, such as trying new trails or participating in group rides.
- Trail Etiquette and Safety: - Understanding the trail rules, including yielding to other users, signaling intentions, and riding responsibly.
- Pump track Lesson - learn balanced posture, focus on body weight to shift and generate momentum and speed
RAIN DATES: - If we have to cancel class due to inclement weather - You will be notified by email an hour before the lesson starts. The make up lesson will be added on to the end of 4 weeks.
